-----------------------------------------------------FLU VACCINE UPDATE 12/22/09
We now have available more H1N1 FLU VACCINE. This is the NASAL version (squirt in the nose). It can be given to 2year olds and older. We cannot give it to 2 to 5 year olds who have asthma or older kids with active asthma, and it is made with egg. It is "preservative-free."
We will be scheduling appointments. Please give us a call at 218-9560 for an appointment.
Kids 9 years old and under should get two doses of H1N1 vaccine this year. They should be separated by at least three weeks.
If a person had the injectable version of H1N1 previously, it's fine to do the second dose as a nasal spray.
If a child had a nasal version of the seasonal flu vaccine in the last three weeks, you should wait until at least three weeks have passed before getting another nasal vaccine.
We still have an order in for the infant/toddler vaccine, but we have not heard yet when it will be available.
-----------------------------------------------------
We also have SEASONAL FLU VACCINE for all ages. Please give us a call at 218-9560 for an appointment.
Kids who have had seasonal flu vaccine in past year(s) need one dose of seasonal flu vaccine this year. If this is the first year that a child 8 or under has seasonal flu vaccine, he/she should have two doses at least a month apart.

Welcome to Pediatrics at the Basin, a pediatric practice devoted to caring for babies, children and adolescents in the Rochester area.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Susie Strang, who will be starting in January. Dr. Strang, a longtime resident of Pittsford, has four children and is excited to be working in a practice close to home.
Dr. Abell will be joining Penfield Pediatrics group as of January 1.
Dr. Alice Loveys and Dr. Janet Cranshaw founded the practice in 2001 (and have been in pediatrics for 15-20 years each). Read more about all of us! Our nurse practitioner, Paul Maxwell, has years of experience with patients of all ages.
Because we are a small practice, we pride ourselves on delivering highly personal, accommodating, family-centered care to your children. This dedication exists at all levels of encounters: from phone calls to checking in, from nursing assistance to physician time, we strive to provide service of the highest quality.
At well visits, you can read about age-appropriate nutritional and developmental guidelines; this same information is provided at your child's regular checkups. The education link will guide you to some recommended pediatric web sites.
We look forward to seeing you!
